Aight, time to talk vanity again

Y’all know me and my dependency on cosmetics. No shame. But it better be of good quality. And when yours truly comes across some real gems, you know she’s spilling the beans.

So… for November (we’ll get back to “Movember” later), these are some tried and trusted products.

Skin saver!

Skin saver!

I use Boscia BB cream in light every day. I blend it with two or three other shades of foundation to match my skin color. This BB cream is great on its own, but doesn’t give a lot of coverage. Blended with foundation it gives a perfect, luminous look. LOVE! It costs about $38 at Sephora, but lasts forever.

Another skin saver!

Another skin saver!

I found a sample of this oil in a magazine and decided to try it. I think my skin had an orgasm. Can you say that? It felt really good and I had a rosy glow all day. NOT greasy at all and is perfect as a night-time treatment. About 8 bucks at drugstores.

Bye bye circles.

Bye bye circles.

And this one is truly a life-saver. I get up at 3 am every day (night) for work, and this covers everything. Set it with a little bit of translucent mineral powder, and nobody can tell you didn’t get your 8,9,10 hours of sleep. A little goes a long way, but it’s super blendable. $24 at Sephora.

OK! Three recommendations for today. What are your must-haves? Do share! I’m always looking for new products, even though I stay true to the ones I love the most. Olay Total Effects Moisturizer Plus Touch of Sun has been a staple for nearly five years now. I curse the day they dare to discontinue!

Now – talk to me. Have you tried any of these? What are you faves?

Until next time… cheers! 🙂

Ole Henriksen Seven Skincare Sensations

It’s no secret that I’m a total skin care and make-up junkie. I’ve left too much money behind at Sephora, thus becoming a VIP costumer, yay! But I digress. I recently purchased a starting kit containing seven of Ole Henriksen’s best products.

Seven_SS_kit

It contains:

1) African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

2) Truth Serum Collagen Booster

3) Truth Revealed Super Creme SPF 15

4) Invigorating Night Gel

5) Sheer Transformation

6) Ultimate Eye Gel

7) Walnut Complexion Scrub

I’m familiar with the brand, but it’s quite expensive. However, Sephora offered the kit for 50 bucks, which isn’t bad. I had high expectations, as I’m a fan of the brand’s Truth Serum Collagen Booster and Blue/Black Berry Enzyme Mask.

Well… what to say. I’ve only used it for a week, and I think the “oil-free” labels are a red flag. It’s a myth that oil causes more break-outs, oils are the new gel! So if you catch my drift, a gel doesn’t give my dry skin enough moisture. And the eye gel feels like glue, although I just read on the instructions (a little late, perhaps) that you’re only supposed to apply under the eye, and not on the eye lids. Gotcha.

The cleanser is pleasant and it smells good, but it leaves my skin feeling dry. The scrub seems promising, but there is no expensive scrub that can knock St. Ives off its feet anyways!

I’m not entirely sure if I will continue to use the brand after this. I’ve recently noticed some weird bumps and clogged pores, and I never have that!

I think I will stick to my fave brand, REN, and the French cult creme Embryolisse after this.

A little piece of heaven came to my door

Since I’m a girly girl most comfortable in a pair of A-line dresses, cute shoes, clear skin and the ability to change my make-up according to my mood I see NO reason for me to excuse myself for being born a girl and thus obsessing over everything glittery. It’s a form of expression and art and aesthetics all in a simple brush stroke. But, alas, I digress. The piece of heaven I previously mentioned is in all its simplicity but no less divine than a box from Sephora. I will test them for some time and give you an honest feedback. Products received thus far are NARS The Multiple in Orgasm, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain (yah, I am FAIR, get over it), Too Faced Lip Injection and Too Faced Snow Bunny Bronzer – both long time favorites. I also got this drop-deap gorgeous make-up palette by Urban Decay called NAKED. Just look at it, drool! So far I’m impressed. The shadows are easy to blend and you can create various looks depending on your mood and time of day.

NARS’ The Multiple goes leaves a sheer, shimmer-y pink on my cheeks, but you can also use it on your chin and temples for subtle contouring. It’s not called The Multiple for nothing!

Against animal testing?

The fabulous Ellen DeGeneres recently stated in an American Express ad:

“If you want to test cosmetics, why do it on some poor animal who hasn’t done anything? They should use prisoners who have been convicted of murder or rape instead. So, rather than seeing if perfume irritates a bunny rabbit’s eyes, they should throw it in Charles Manson’s eyes and ask him if it hurts.”

I couldn’t agree more!

A rave about my new faves!

OK guys, so today’s topic is F for FAVORITES! I have picked out a few of my current obsessions for your pleasures.

NEW FAVORITE BLOGS:

One Awkward Year – I never thought there could be a person walking on this earth who’s more awkward than I am, but here you go. The whole theme of this blog is awkwardness (= awesomeness), and the author is such a good writer that even Bill Bryson falls short. And THAT takes a lot. Be aware, though, the blog is like crack. You get hooked.

Ennui – a blog by a Swedish journalist. Don’t worry if you don’t know the language, the pictures are a real treat. Cats, second-hand items, vintage, art, great photography… trust me, it will make you float on a pink cloud.

Classic Confusion– cool Canadian chick puts into writing what exists in my own head. I can relate and I love it.

FAVORITE BEAUTY ITEMS:

Ole Henriksen Blue/Blackberry Enzyme Mask – Picture an orgasm for your face. Pure delight. And yes, it does give you that O-glow. Perfect for all skin types and gentle enough for frequent use. Extra bonus – it smells of lavish lavender. Ahh….

Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil – the one and only shaper AND definer in one. And it suits all colors. I’ve tried everything and this one is a keeper.

FAVORITE DRINKS:

Promenade white wine – As if the cover isn’t worth it alone. French and chic… me likey.

Whole milk – What was that? Yikes? Trust me, fat is the way to go if you want to lose weight. Throw out carbs, bring on the fat.

FAVORITE TV SHOWS:

Mad Men – Gotta love me some Don Draper. Handsome, smart but such a heartbreaker. Can’t wait for the next season.

Californication – A talented yet tormented writer. Alcohol, sex and drugs. Yet another (although fictitious) statement that all great minds suffer from some kind of addiction, or mental issues. Great writing, great acting… and Duchovny looks better than ever.

“Let’s californicate!”

Now talk to me…. what are YOUR favorites?

Dear Santa…

I’m not really that into materialism. Really. If you’ve ever been to my place, you’ll know. I prefer quirky things with personality rather than a spanking new designer item. But there is always something I crave, whether it be food, drinks, time with friends or fabulous purse. I am a girl, after all! But to be serious, what I wish more than anything else as a gift is a donation to the nearest humane society where YOU are. If just anyone could to a little thing to help our furry friends nothing would make me happier.

With that being said, AND in fear of contradicting myself (yet there is nothing wrong with dreaming), here is a little collection of items I dream of….

Warehouse Ostrich bag

 Bag from Asos, order here.
